FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much will this cost?

The audit is free of charge. There are no up front fees of any kind. All compensation to RSG is strictly performance driven and calculated exclusively on a percentage share of any credit, refund, price or rate reduction, or other new savings generated through our efforts. The value we bring to our clients is 100% identifiable. There is never an opportunity for savings misinterpretation or any “gray areas” to worry about.  We will prepare a worksheet or other supporting documentation substantiating each credit, refund, price or rate reduction, or other new savings. In the rare case that we are unable to generate any credits, refunds, price or rate reductions or other new savings, you do not owe us a cent. It’s that simple. We provide a win-win opportunity.

How much of our time will this process take and will it disrupt our operations?

It is very important to us not to distract our clients from their work. All of our utility audits are performed in our offices, not our clients. Once we have bill copies to analyze, it may be necessary to make a brief general site visit to inspect the utility meters or waste containers. Any recommendations we make will either be face-to-face or via e-mail, telephone, or regular mail. We take surprisingly little time from our clients. All we ask is that our clients scan, email, fax, or mail a copy of their utility bills to us each month. In the event a property tax appeal is filed, a brief site visit may be necessary. The remainder of the appeal process is performed off site.

What happens if we are already working on reducing our costs? We do not want to pay you for a savings we initiate.

It is not a problem for our clients to take cost recovery initiatives on their own. We can either leave that particular utility out of our scope of service or our clients can simply identify to us what they are already working on and we will be glad to exclude those funds from any shared savings. We are only compensated on savings we initiate.

Why should I have an audit performed? My bills are fairly consistent each month.

Many of our client’s bills were consistent each month before the audit; they were consistently wrong. Even though the dollar amount of the bill may not fluctuate much from month to month this enables us to better identify billing errors, mistakes, and overcharges. However, the underlying components of the bill could very well be incorrect. We’ve seen many accounts that have been incorrect from the time the account was set up. Many states will allow us to go back retroactively and recover utility over billings, but there is a time limit (usually one to three years) on how far back they will allow. That is why it is important to do an audit now.  We are professionals who offer a unique perspective to improving your bottom line. Since this is a no risk proposition, why not have an audit performed.

Can we sign up for some of your services but not all?

Yes. There may be occasions where only some of our services are utilized. For example, an income producing apartment complex is an excellent candidate for property tax appeals, water/sewer, and waste and telecommunications audits but since the residents usually pay the individual gas and electric bills directly, we do not audit them. If it makes sense to audit the bills, it is in the client’s best interest for us to do so since it does not cost them a cent for us to perform the audit.
